Working with other practices
Engineering and architecture practices bring me in as the named heritage building surveying resource on a specific commission: I read the fabric, diagnose the pathology, and write a report to sit inside your own. I report white-label or named, at your preference, and either way I carry the professional responsibility for my part of it. For built environment professionals sets out the shape.
Solicitors and agents come with a different problem, usually a transaction that has met a building nobody can read. For solicitors and agents covers that work. Contractors who need the fabric understood before pricing or opening up will find for contractors.
Why a solo practice is the point
You get the surveyor you instructed. There is no team the work is handed down to, no trainee writing the report a principal signs, and no account manager between you and the person who stood in the roof space. The trade is capacity, so I say early and plainly if a commission is more than I can take on properly.
